I've been re-watching the CW show Supergirl, that's available on Netflix for all of you DC lovers (rated TV-14), and it got me thinking about role models. Recently our society has changed a little to form some examples of role models and people to look up to, however when asked the question, who is your hero, most people are left speechless. So I ask, who is your hero? Who do you look to that makes you think that everything is going to be okay? Who do you see that gives you hope for a brighter and successful future? Who is your inspiration?
According to Guinness world records, the first superhero was created in 1936 under the name of The Phantom and whose story gave him the nickname “‘ the ghost who walks’. The first female superhero debuted four years later under the name Fantomah- the mystery woman of the jungle. During the same period, the Roosevelts came forth as Heroes of our nation. Many looked up to as they swept in to save the day halfway through the great depression of the 30s, institution relief, recovery and hope. They remained that way into WWII.
While this is mainly just a discussion topic that I find interesting, some people have devoted their lives to bringing the world an infinite amount of heroes to look up to, both real and fictional.
While many people look up to fictional characters as heroes, many find it difficult due to the fact that they are not real. As a girl when asked, who is your hero, I was kind of stumped. I knew the answer I always gave was my mom or my dad but around my freshman year of highschool I really started wondering… Who is my hero? I looked around for some superstar celebrity to look up to, like some of the other girls I knew, but when some girls wanted to be exactly like cinderella, others wanted to be like ariana grande or nicki minaj. So in the face of diversity and many questions, I found a hero. I found something I looked at and could confidently say, that's my hero. That's where I put my hope. That gives me faith in a better future.
Many have referenced the quote “show me your friends and I’ll show you your future” and while this quote will never die and will always hold steadfast and true, I dare to say the same is true about who you follow. As we start 2022 and we begin to make our plans, Take a second to think about where your hope is. Is it a person? Is ist a faith? Is it your favorite A list celeb or is it a poem from your favorite book? Wherever it is I dare you to sit down, and think just for a minute. Where is your future?
In the meantime, comment. Who is your Hero? I’d love to know.
